S: yes, that’s right. I ‘ve been staying with my Aunt and my cousin is arriving form Singapore and my anut
needs some room for
him.
L: oh, that’s bad luck.. well, I ‘ll need to get some particulars. First, what’s your first name?
S: Sara lin. That’s sara without the “h” at the end.
L: how old are you ?
S: 23 only just . it has my birthday on the 21ST of august.
L: happy birthday for yesterday. How long have you been in Austrlia?
S: a year in Adelaide. Six months in Sydney. I prefer Sydney. I have got more friends here.
L: what’s your address at your aunts house?
S: flat 1/539 Forest Road Canterbury and the post code is 2036.
L: ok, what are you studying now?
S: I was studying general English in Adelaide but now I am studying academic English because I want to
get into….next year.
L: that sounds good but it will take a long time. When would you like to move out from your aunts?
S: my cousin arrives on Friday morning so I better be out on Thursday.
L: Thursday the 10th of September.
S: yes. That’s right.

l: that doesn’t leave us much time. Right ok..i need to know what of accommodation you like so I can get
you something suitable.
S: can I share with someone else? I ‘ve always shred with my sister and I like that.
L: yes, that’s fine. It will save your money too. Would you like to live with a family or do you think a single
person would be better
for you? I have lots of ….single people in my books.
S: do you have any women living alone? Retired women.
L: yes I have quite a few whose children have grown and have left home. In fact I have some really lovely
retired ladies living by
themselves who just love the company of students. Most of them live in flats. But that’s not a problem for
you is it?
S: not at all. I’m not used to a big house with a graden…swimming pool, pets and all that.
L: ok, fine. I know quite a bit about. What you want now. I should let you know that your rent will be about
$160.00 per week.
You’ll have to pay me $320.00 as a deposit before you move in the deposit is in case you break
something. You’ll need to pay for
things like gas, electricity or water. But you will need to pay your potion of the phone bills. Most …..pay
their way on an honest

南极大陆
南极大陆是指南极洲除周围岛屿以外的陆地，是世界上发现最晚的大陆，它孤独地位於地球的最南端。南
极大陆95％以上的面积为厚度极高的冰雪所覆盖，素有「白色大陆」之称。在全球6 块大陆中，南极大陆
大於澳大利亚大陆，排名第5。南极大陆和澳大利亚大陆是世界上仅有的被海洋包围的2 块大陆，其四周
有太平洋、大西洋、印度洋，形成一个围绕地球的巨大水圈，呈完全封闭状态(参看南极洋)，是一块远离
其他大陆、与文明世界完全隔绝的大陆，至今仍然没有常住居民，只有少量的科学考察人员轮流在为数不
多的考察站临时居住和工作。
南极地区丰富的矿产资源
南极地区的矿产资源极为丰富。据已查明的资源分布来看，煤、铁和石油的储量为世界第一，其它的矿产
资源还正在勘测过程中。在南极地区，可望发现更多更丰富的矿产资源，为人类利用这些资源提出科学依
据。
南极大陆二叠纪煤层主要分布于南极洲的冰盖下面，储量约为5000 亿吨。
铁矿是南极最富有的矿产资源之一。在南极大陆，主要分布在东南极洲。据科学家们勘测，在查尔斯王
子山脉南部的地层内，在晚太古至元古代，有一条厚度达400 米，长120 公里～180 公里，宽5 公里～10
公里的条带状富磁铁矿岩层，矿石平均品位达32%～58%，是具有工业开采价值的富铁矿床，初步估算其
蕴藏量可供全世界开发利用200 年，是当今世界最大的富铁矿藏。有趣的是，如果沿着南极洲查尔斯王子
山脉所在的经度范围（北纬60 度至北纬70 度）一直往北走，几乎在相同经度差不多对称的北极地区，又
是一片世界级大铁矿地区。
南极地区的石油储存量约500 亿～1000 亿桶，天然气储量约为30000～50000 亿立方米。南极的罗斯
海、威德尔海和别林斯高晋海以及南极大陆架均是油田和天然气的主要产地。
南极地区，有待查明的各种资源还很多，加上各国资源勘探结果还未完全公开，因此，还有待我国科学
